Mr. Sidney L. Chertok, who moved to Orlando in 1985 with his wife, Kit, was director of information services and director of advertising and sales promotion for Sprague Electric Company. Mr. Chertok held a degree in electrical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and was an experienced reporter and photographer. (He was the first newsman to be allowed inside Franklin Delano Roosevelt's Dream Cottage.) Mr. Chertok received several patents for electronics devices and numerous awards for his exhibits at trade shows. Mr. Chertok was very interested in photography, especially nature photography, and, for 34 years, edited a photograph-filled engagement calendar featuring images solicited by competition from area photographers. Kit Chertok, in her husband's memory, was instrumental in establishing this photo contest to encourage others to carry on this tradition of nature photography. Kit was an Orange Audubon board member for several years prior to her death in 2003.
